Beta 2 is launched and we raised 1.5M in funding

As we mentioned in an earlier blog post, we’ve been gearing up for the next big release of the Cliqset platform. It’s been a couple of busy weeks and today we have a ton to talk about.

This morning, we officially announced the launch of beta 2, a developer challenge that opens the door to some creativity and innovation, and delivers $30K in prizes to the winners, and, we also raised some money. 1.5M from an angel investor.

Beta 2 features some pretty exciting integrations and makes the Cliqset promise to deliver a seamless (open) social experience even better. Here’s what you’ll find:

1) A Location Services API that allows developers to build locally-aware apps for web and mobile by using location info from users. With the location services API, developers canĀ  easily look up and use meaningful address information using the latitude and longitude coordinates provided by mobile devices. Location information can be tied to user activities but can also be used to store more generic location information that’s relevant to the applications they build on the Cliqset platform.

2) New push/pull social information (statuses, location, etc.) functionality to and from Cliqset, Cliqset-enabled applications and the supported third-party services. Push/Pull functionality is now possible with 8 third-party services, including Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, identica, laconica, Linkedin, FireEagle, and FriendFeed. Users can update their status and information from any of these services and have them pushed and pulled out to wherever the choose.

3) Integration of Cliqset location services with third-party services like BrightKite, FireEagle and Twitter, – simplifying how a user can keep their social and location information in sync around the Web.

And, we now have more than thirty integrations with social networks and services, overall. So, give the new version a try and tell us what you think.
